In the shadows of history there lies lessons too crucial to ignore, warnings of what happens when the guardians of morality become the enablers of tyranny. I write to you today fueled by the insights from “Letters to the American Church,” urging us to take a hard look at the parallels between the moral capitulations in Germany's churches during the 1930s and the dangerous path our American political landscape seems hell-bent on treading.
In Germany, once-fervent religious leaders folded under pressure, becoming mere puppets to authoritarian whims. This isn’t just historical commentary; it’s a prophetic mirror reflecting what could transpire here if we remain on our current trajectory. We are flirting dangerously close to repeating the same catastrophic mistakes. If we continue to allow the wrong individuals to wield power, we risk not only our country’s future but our own.
Visualize our current Republican political spectrum as a pie chart splintered by compromise and self-interest: 65% consists of grassroots conservatives, “US” the true believers steadfast in their convictions and unwavering in the face of adversity. These are our people, the backbone of values and principles. Opposing them is a stumbling 25%, the Trans-Republicans, a group whose conservative labels can be as shallow as puddles on the eastern Colorado plains in August. They morph and meld into whatever shape the Uni-Party agenda requires, sacrificing our values on the altar of political expediency. The remaining 20%? They are the entrenched Republican Establishment, found canoodling with the power and money of the Uni-Party, Koch Brothers - Americans for Prosperity, and the Anschutz media empire. Their conservative credentials are as thin as their political campaign promises.
This isn’t just a split within a party, it’s a fracture in the very foundation of our nation. The dangers of such sub-groups that prioritize appeasement over principle and others who are just in it for the money and power, are not just alarming; they are existential to the conservative cause. This is about more than politics, it’s about the soul of our country and the moral compass of our people.
It’s time to sound the alarm louder than ever. We must not be bystanders in the slow decay of our conservative values and principles. The lessons of history scream at us from the pages of the past, begging us not to make the same foolish errors. Let’s rally our forces, stiffen our spines, and prepare for the battle that lies ahead. Our mission is clear, reclaim our faith, fortify our ranks, and lead with the kind of unyielding constitutional conservatism that can withstand the pressures of compromise and opposition.
