Here we are, folks, in the brave new world of 2025, and guess what? The Parker Town Council hasn't changed its stripes one bit. It's as if we've all stepped into a time machine—not to a better future, but back into last year's comedy show where the punchline is always the same: unanimous votes, no debate, and zero representation of the actual citizens of Parker.
Let's dive into the minutes from the January meetings, shall we? Another month, another episode of "Council Votes: The Unanimous Edition." Out of all the votes taken, how many were "No"? You guessed it—none. It's as if they've all taken a vow of "yes," because thinking independently or, God forbid, representing the diverse viewpoints of Parker's residents seems to be beyond their job description.
Signing off on contracts over $100,000, passed unanimously. Not a single "No" or even an "I'm not sure" in sight. It's as if they're all sharing one brain cell and it's stuck on "agree." And what does this tell us? That our council members are either telepathically connected or they're just too scared to rock the boat, especially when it comes to their own interests. We get a council that might as well be hosting a rubber stamp convention headed by Rubber Stamp Rivero. “They're not representing us; they're representing themselves and their cozy little club.
And don't get me started on the executive session. They go behind closed doors to discuss strategies and negotiations, but when it comes to the public session, it's all smiles and nods. Councilmember Wilks had to abstain due to conflict of interest, which is the only time we see any semblance of individual thought. But once the doors are open again, it's back to the chorus of "yes."
Folks, this isn't governance; it's a mockery of democracy. We need council members who will stand up, speak out, and represent the residents of Parker and their values, not just go along to get along. We need people who aren't afraid to say "No" when it's needed, who will fight for our principles, not just their own cushy positions.
As we progress through this year, let's not allow things to slide. Let's demand more from our Town Council, or even better, let's replace them with those who will genuinely serve Parker, not just themselves when the opportunity arises. Remember, in Parker, it's a new year, but the same old story unless we take action. So, plan to attend the upcoming meetings and witness this charade for yourself.
Voting records were taken directly from the minutes of the January 2025 Town Council meetings. I excluded all instances of "call to order," "adjournment," “approval of minutes," and “agenda approval” from the count.
