In the latest circus act that is Douglas County Commissioner politics, we've got George Teal strutting into the role of Chair of the Board of County Commissioners. This isn't leadership, let’s cut through the BS, it's a power grab, plain and simple. Teal, who voters elected into office back in 2021, now finds himself at the helm, thanks to a farcical shuffle with Abe Laydon stepping into the role of Vice Chair from Chair. It's a move that stinks just like the swamp water that is the Water Commission Abe and George put together without Lora.
The dynamic between Teal, Laydon, and Commissioner Lora Thomas is nothing short of a disgrace. Believe me, I have no love loss for any of them. They're acting like petulant children fighting over toys in a daycare center, not elected officials. The fact that this entire reshuffle hinged on a single vote – Laydon's – is an outright mockery of the democratic process. It's a slap in the face to every voter in Douglas County, effectively rendering Commissioner Thomas a mere spectator in this sham of governance.
Let's call this what it is, a complete dereliction of duty and a betrayal of public trust. The residents of Douglas County are being taken for a ride by these so-called leaders, who, in my humble opinion, are more interested in their own agendas (destroying Lora Thomas) than serving the public good. The lack of immediate accountability mechanisms is a gaping flaw in our system. If I had my way, I'd tell these commissioners straight up, "You're not just failing, you're actively harming our community. In the words of Donald Trump, You're fired!"
As conservatives, we stand for integrity, responsibility, and effective governance. But what's happening in Douglas County is an affront to these values. It's time for us to stand up and demand real change. We need leaders who will actually lead, not self-serving politicians who treat governance like a game. This isn't just a call to action, it's a demand for a complete overhaul of this farcical excuse for leadership in the Commissioner's Office. We could call it, a RECONFIGURATION.
