Patriots, Friends, and Fellow Douglas County Parents, I am writing to you with a message that cannot wait. With the new progressive majority now seated on the Douglas County School Board, parents must understand exactly what is coming, not eventually, not someday, but soon. And thanks to the work of Defending Education and its president, Nikki Neely, the picture is painfully clear.
While American students just earned their lowest reading and math scores in decades, the education establishment is not scrambling to fix academics. Instead, they are pouring millions into ideological programs designed to turn your children into political activists. Not thinkers. Not problem solvers. Activists.
And here is the part that should make every Douglas County parent furious: this is all being packaged under the harmless-sounding label “Ethnic Studies.” Nikki Neely described it bluntly: “It sounds benign, but it’s absolutely not. It teaches children to be little social justice warriors.”
This is not cultural appreciation. This is not expanded history. This is not unity-building. This is a curriculum built on dividing kids into “oppressors” and “victims,” teaching them that America is inherently evil, and conditioning them to see their peers as political categories instead of human beings. As Neely warns: “It sets children up from a very young age to hate each other and to hate this country.”
And make no mistake, this ideology will not be creeping. It is advancing like a freight train. And our newly elected board will be the engineers and conductors.
Defending Education traced the source of these ideological materials. They aren’t created by local educators or historians. They’re mass-produced at radical universities like Berkeley, then sold nationwide as “modern curriculum.”
This is what Berkeley wants Douglas County children learning:
“Drag Pedagogy: The Playful Practice of Queer Imagination in Early Childhood.”
“No Justice, No Peace: Student Radicalism in Action.”
“Chicanx and Latinx Liberation Studies for K–5.”
These institutions are selling curriculum the same way fast-food chains sell combo meals cheaply, broadly, and without a care in the world about the long-term consequences. Nikki Neely explained it perfectly: “There is an entire ecosystem built to push this garbage into schools — and it is astonishing that people haven’t connected the dots.”
Parents assume teacher in-service days focus on improving instruction. That assumption is dead wrong. Defending Education FOIA’d training materials from districts around the country. What they found should terrify every parent:
Critical Race Theory
Gender identity secrecy policies
Trainings declaring correct math answers “white supremacy”
Instructions telling teachers not to inform parents of a child’s new gender identity
Lessons encouraging activism over academics
One Wisconsin district even told educators: “Parents must earn the right to know their child’s gender identity.” This is not education. This is indoctrination and parental displacement. And with the new Douglas County board majority? Get ready, because this will be approved, normalized, and forced into classrooms as “best practice.”
America is facing the worst academic decline in its modern history. The nation’s report card shows the lowest reading scores ever recorded for eighth graders. Kids can’t write a paragraph, compute basic math, or read a full novel. Nikki Neely asked the critical question:“What are schools doing with the finite time they have with our children?”
The answer is not teaching reading. Not teaching math. Not teaching science. They are teaching:
grievance studies
identity obsession
activism
victimhood theology
radical theories that children cannot even spell, let alone understand
As Neely put it: “We now have children marching to oppose ‘settler colonialism’ who can’t spell the word colonial.” This will be the future our new Douglas County school board is charging toward.
Let’s be brutally honest. Our new progressive board did not run on academic excellence. They ran on equity jargon, DEI buzzwords, and a soft-coded promise to bring these very programs into our district. What is headed our way?
California-style Ethnic Studies mandates
Berkeley and CUNY curriculum packages
Activist training disguised as “social studies”
Gender secrecy policies
Ideological teacher training
Less parental authority
Lower expectations, lower standards, and lower performance
This isn’t a hypothetical. This is a certainty unless parents push back, immediately, loudly, and relentlessly.
Final Warning
Our children deserve real education, not ideological manipulation. The fight starts now. Not later. Now.
Parents, the window for complacency has closed. If you wait until this curriculum is in your child’s backpack, you will be fighting from behind. The progressive board majority now in power will weaponize every inch of policy available to them.
So, Douglas County parents, let’s ask the only question that matters: What are you going to do about it? Are you going to sit on the couch every evening, scrolling through your phone, hoping someone else will magically fix this? Are you going to wait for a neighbor, a friend, or “the community” to step up while you stay comfortably on the sidelines?
Or are you finally going to take real action by showing up at Douglas County School Board meetings, asking questions, reviewing proposed curriculum changes, and, most importantly, speaking out and speaking up when something doesn’t look right? The price of liberty is defending not only your children but the very community you live in.
Look at Denver.
That is the blueprint. That is the endgame. That is exactly what they want to replicate here in Douglas County: an education system collapsing under activism, chaos, and ideological capture.
This fight is YOUR fight. Because if they take our schools, they take our county. And if they take our county, the culture that built this community, our values, our families, our future, will erode and sink just like it has in every progressive-run city and town across the state. Conservative flight has already started in Douglas County. How many people do you know who have left Douglas County and Colorado?
Together, we can stop it. Together, we can make a difference. But only if you stand up. Because here’s the harsh truth:
If you’re not helping to solve the problem… then you are, in fact, part of the problem.
