So, speaking of budgets, thank you for bringing this up, RMV. Here is something to think about how this “budget” ties into the 2026 Governor's race…Barbara Kirkmeyer: She trots out the reassuring slogan of “experience” and “conservative credentials,” but when you crack open her voting record, particularly on the state budget, the picture changes.
In 2025-26, Kirkmeyer voted Yea on the massive long-bill budget framework engineered by the Democrat-majority legislature and shepherded through by the very committee she sits on: the Joint Budget Committee (JBC). That’s not a small procedural vote, that’s full participation in a large-scale spending plan.
Now you can’t claim this is a one-off. Take a look at her earlier votes: A “Yea” for 2021-22, a “Nay” for 2022-23, then she’s back in support for 2023-24 and 2024-25 as an author/sponsor of the Long Bill. What do you call that pattern? You call it alignment. Alignment with the system that spins up budgets full of funding boondoggles, expansion programs, and fiscal commitments that tie future taxpayers’ hands. She is in bed with the Dem’s.
So yes, the “experience” she touts? It’s experience in making and voting for the same budget machinery that conservatives rail against. Being on the JBC is supposed to mean you’re the watchdog; here, it looks like she’s the one writing the check.
Look, experience in politics can mean two things: it can mean the candidate knows how to fight the system, or it means the candidate is the system. You begin to see how this “experience” narrative can be hollow.
If you’re voting for the next governor and you expect someone who will oppose runaway spending, defend limited government, and push back against the budget-bloat machine, then the real question is: Do you want someone who previously voted “Yea” on Democrat-engineered budgets or someone who stands in front of that machine with a bold “No.”
Barbara Kirkmeyer has cast her vote. That vote says she’s part of the budget-expansion coalition. If that’s not what you signed up for, keep looking.
