Move On? Only When the Coup Crew Grows a Spine and a Soul

I was asked a really hilarious yet serious question the other day: “What’s it gonna take to get you to move on now that Brita Horn won the Colorado GOP Chair?” Oh, I don’t know. Maybe when pigs fly, Denver freezes over in August, and Brita issues a heartfelt apology that isn’t written by a PR firm trying to clean up a scandal.
Let me make this simple: I’ll be showing Brita Horn and her Coup Crew the exact same amount of grace they showed the previous Colorado GOP leadership, absolutely none. Zip. Zilch. Nada. Remember how they acted? Like a pack of political jackals circling the prey, screeching “something must be done!” Well, something will be done. It’s called accountability, and it’s long overdue.
Now, I’m not saying there’s a snowball’s chance in Hell that I’ll ease up on them for the next two years, but if you’re looking for a miracle, here’s what it would take for me to even consider loosening my rhetorical grip:
1. A public confession in writing, yes, written, not buried in a social media post, admitting that the coup was wrong: Brita Horn, Eli Bremer, Todd Watkins, Kevin McCarney, KBB, and the rest. This needs to be a public mea culpa on Rocky Mountain Voice and Colorado Politics, acknowledging that your coup was a colossal mistake and the damage you now see it has caused. Own it!
2. A sincere apology to Dave Williams, Anna Ferguson, and Hope Scheppelman for the smear campaign, the legal headaches, and the disgraceful character assassination. And I don’t mean one of those “I’m sorry you were offended” trash apologies. I mean genuine remorse and a request for forgiveness. Once again, in writing and in public.
3. A second apology, this time to the entire grassroots base in Colorado, for undermining the party during election season with backroom plotting that would make Frank Underwood stand back and take notice. Again, in writing and public.
4. Oh, and while we’re at it, how about you open those personal wallets and pay back the $100,000.00 the Colorado GOP had to shell out fending off your little civil war?
Now, do I actually think this will happen? Of course not. The Coup Crew is fueled by arrogance, not integrity. So yeah, odds are I’ll be pounding on this drum like it’s a Keith Moon encore for the next two years. And honestly, I’m fine with that.
Because if they thought WE or I were just going to “move on,” they clearly haven’t been paying attention to what happens once I latch on.
