Day two at the Circus:
Ladies and gentlemen, boys and girls of all ages, step right up to the most bewildering spectacle in Colorado politics, the "No Confidence" circus at the State House, starring none other than the daring Colorado House Republicans. It's day two of this saga, and if you thought yesterday was a hoot, you're in for a treat. Get your popcorn and peanuts, because the clown car made it to the show as I predicted.
Let's set the stage. In one ring, we have Representative Scott Bottoms, playing the role of the ringmaster, calling for a caucus meeting. But wait, there's a twist! Reports are swirling faster than the motorcycle in the circle cage that Mike Lynch, the man of the hour, has been using language that's more suited for a lion tamer who just got bit than a leader, intimidating members to skip the meeting. And here's the kicker, the Chief Clerk allegedly said the meeting wasn't even legal. Spoiler alert, according to source, he didn’t say that! Working without a net, such bravery!
Now, let's turn our attention to the center ring, the great vanishing act of the representatives. Only eight brave souls showed up, while the rest seemed to be playing a game of hide-and-seek via the great escape in the clown car. But here’s the crux, they were all trying to figure out if the meeting was legitimate amidst the misinformation being spread by Lynch. Richard Holtorf, the voice of reason, confirms that anyone can call a caucus meeting, but alas, the damage was done.
The no-shows, ladies and gentlemen, are the same representatives who voted to keep the vote secret yesterday. Leading this parade of disappearing acts are our own from Douglas County, Anthony Hartsook CO044 and Lisa Frizell CO045, with Michael Lynch, Mary Bradfield, Matt Soper, Gabe Evans, Ron Weinberg, and Mare Catlin piling in the clown car to make their escape.
But let's not forget the stars who did show up: Rod Bockenfeld, Richard Holtorf, Ty Winter, Ryan Armagost, Rick Taggert, Ken Degraaf, Scott Bottoms, Rose Pugliese, and Brandi Bradley. They may not have been able to vote, thanks to the no-shows, but they deserve a round of applause for at least showing up to the tent.
In the backdrop of this circus, we have a tale of DUIs, probation, and a leader clinging to his post like a trapeze artist to his bar. And let's not forget the claims of yelling and curse words flying around, giving new meaning to the phrase 'political circus'.
So, as the curtain falls on today's performance, we're left wondering, will the Republicans continue to play these games, or will they finally step up and face the music? Stay tuned for the next act in this never-ending circus, where the only thing you can expect is the unexpected. Don’t forget to visit the tattooed man and the bearded lady, right on the steps of the State House along with the rest of the homeless overrunning downtown Denver.
Thanks for coming to the show!
