The Real Threat Is Standing in Plain Sight

Patriots, let’s have a conversation, the kind that may make you think. Lately, I’ve watched some folks online fire off attack after attack at gubernatorial candidates who, frankly, aren’t the biggest threats to Colorado’s future. It’s like watching someone scream at the scarecrow in the field while the wolf circles behind them. Entertaining? For some. Productive? Absolutely not.
After four decades as a professional negotiator and a CEO, as a student of people, one thing I know for sure is this: when people feel threatened, or think they’re threatened, they can do some strange things. They lose sight of the goal. They can’t see the forest, the trees, or the wildfire barreling toward them. And right now, some of our own are so busy ripping on pre-primary gubernatorial candidates who are going through the assembly process that they’re completely ignoring the one person who has the clearest path to the primary ballot and the longest track record of voting like a Democrat (all she is missing is purple hair): Barbara Kirkmeyer.
Yes, Kirkmeyer.
The one who mark my words will be petitioning onto the ballot because she knows she couldn’t get 30% at the assembly if she were the only name on it. She probably couldn’t get 10% with a coupon. And why would she bother? Petitioning shields her from grassroots accountability, which is perfect when your voting history reads like a Love Letter to Special Interests.
Take a little stroll through her record using the Liberty Scorecard (https://libertyscorecardco.us/#/legislator/25717), the receipts are all sitting there, waving their arms like tarmac aircraft marshals. Budget after Democrat budget approval. Bill after bill that grows government, chips away at freedom, and leaves conservatives wondering whether she’s been voting for Weld County or downtown Denver. And we’re supposed to pretend she’s a serious choice for governor? She’d lose by margins so wide Heidi Ganahl would look like she ran a competitive race.
But here’s what’s truly maddening: while the political establishment is quietly propping up Kirkmeyer behind the curtain, conservatives are online clawing at each other over candidates who actually have the courage to go through the assembly. It’s misdirection. And some of you are falling for it hook, line, and sinker.
Look, I’m not scolding anyone. Everyone gets to voice their opinions (I do it regularly, I’m doing it right now), that maybe the only redeeming quality of social media, aside from dog videos. Step back. Breathe. And ask yourself: Am I attacking the person who annoys me the most for whatever reason, or the person who threatens my state the most?
Because if we don’t focus our fire on the real danger, the establishment-backed, donor-loyal, liberty-score-disaster herself, Barbara Kirkmeyer, then we’re marching straight into the trap the establishment has set for us.
As I always tell people, “YOU be YOU”, not what others want you to be. Just be aware of your outcomes for being YOU.
