Your Legislators Have Betrayed You Yet Again in a Sham Special Session

Well, folks, here we are again. Another "special" session in Colorado has ended, and guess what? You, the hardworking taxpayer, got the short end of the stick (surprise, surprise). Governor Polis and his merry band of legislative hooligans have just signed into law what they're calling "modest tax cuts." But let's not kid ourselves; this was nothing more than a political trick to run yet another scam on us.

Here's the deal: Two ballot initiatives, Initiatives 108 and 50, were set to potentially save you a whopping $2.4 billion in property taxes. But, oh no, that was too much relief for the likes of us common folk. Instead, our esteemed leaders decided to negotiate with the very groups pushing these initiatives, essentially holding our financial relief hostage.

What did we get in return? A paltry $255 million in tax cuts starting in 2025, with some caps on how fast your property taxes can grow. Sounds good? Well, it's a drop in the bucket compared to what could've been. And let's not forget that these politicians patted themselves on the back for this "compromise," claiming they've ended the property tax wars. They've really ensured that the war on your wallet continues.

Let's break down this charade:

The So-Called Tax Cuts: They're touting a $255 million tax cut like it's some grand victory. But let's cut through the smoke and mirrors – this is peanuts compared to the $2.4 billion you could've saved with Initiatives 108 and 50. They've robbed you of significant relief and handed you back crumbs, expecting gratitude.

The Betrayal: These initiatives were your chance for real change, a way to force the government to think twice before dipping into your pockets. But no, our "representatives" decided they'd rather negotiate with lobbyists and special interest groups than listen to the will of the people.

The Political Charade: Governor Polis claims this brings unity. What a load of bull! This unity is nothing more than a united front against the taxpayers. They've turned what should have been a straightforward legislative process into a backroom deal, where your future was traded for political favors.

The Insult: They've capped how fast your property taxes can grow, but in the grand scheme, this does little to combat the skyrocketing cost of living in Colorado. They're essentially telling you to be thankful for a slower rate of getting poorer.

This special session was nothing more than a legislative heist, where the robbers wear suits and smile for the cameras. They've taken what could have been significant taxpayer relief and turned it into a token gesture, all while claiming victory over the very crisis they helped perpetuate.

So, Colorado, when you see your property tax bill next year, remember this moment. Remember how your Republican elected officials chose to play politics rather than truly serve the people. They've not only screwed you over but did so with such flair that they expect you to thank them for the privilege. (Did they use lube this time, it doesn't feel like it).
